Hartcliffe and Withywood Young People (HWYP) is facilitated by the Hartcliffe and Withywood Community Partnership (HWCP) Social Action team. Our aim with this website is to give you a place where you can find out what’s going on in the area, and have a voice within the community to share what’s important to you. We are also creating ways in which you can influence the development of the community and activities for young people, as well as get involved in their running.
I started getting involved in my local community when I was 15 and never looked back. From living in a tree to prevent a road being built to turning a derelict swimming pool into an art gallery, to working with a community and the NHS to develop inclusive and effective mental health services - I've done it all and am looking forward to doing more!
I've had over 10 years experience working with young people. In that time I have worked on many projects empowering young people giving them a voice and supporting them in their development. I am massive football fan, love sports and love getting to know people. If you see me please say hello. Can't wait to support young people in the area I grew up.
I am a Hartcliffe girl born and bred. I’ve been actively involved in the local community in many ways, from writing the young peoples’ section of the Wham! as a teen, to running community markets and most recently, setting up and running Performing Harts. I’m so excited to be working back where my volunteer journey began at the age of 13.
I’m a theatre maker, artist and writer. I am passionate about social justice and empowering girls and women. Since moving back to Bristol in 2014 I’ve volunteered and worked for a variety of local charities helping support communities in Bristol. I can’t wait to get to know the local community here and make things happen together!
We're looking for social action champions who care about the community and want to drive positive change to make everyone's life better.
This website is for you, and needs your contributions! Are you a wannabe writer? Artist? Photographer? Video maker? Get in touch!
Social action refers to activities that people do to make a positive difference to others, the environment or their community.
There are lots of ways in which young people can take practical action to make a positive difference. It can take place in a range of contexts and can mean formal or informal activities. These include volunteering, fundraising, campaigning or supporting peers.
You don’t have to try and save the world on your own. Taking small positive actions to improve your home, school or local community can all make a big difference, and we can help you take action in many ways.
Taking part in social action activities can boost your confidence and help you feel good about yourself. It can also help you develop vital skills and networks that can increase your prospects in future employment and education.
Social action can also make a real difference to your life, your community and other people. It’s a way of taking control and having power over things in a way that doesn’t rely on politicians or other organisations.
