Summer activities update

The Holidays have got off to a flying start. We have already engaged with over 90 Young people over a range of our summer holiday projects.

Young people have enjoyed activities from football run by our partners at the Bristol city community trust. They have been developing skills with the robin’s coaches as well as working on a range of issues such as anti-racism.

Young people have also enjoyed showing off their acting skills in our weekly sessions that we have been running from Hareclive school. It is great seeing the imagination of the young people in our area as they create their own dramatic performances. I do believe we have some future bafta winners among us.

The social action group has been building on a range of skills empowering themselves with a platform to express their own voice. They are working towards some special projects that they will aim to deliver to the wider community in the up and coming months. It’s amazing to see the passion and drive that these young people have in trying to improve on things within the community.

We have also been able to open up the container at the pump track allowing young people the chance to use the BMX equipment. With so much coverage of BMX during the Olympics, it’s great to give the opportunity to young people in the area a chance to try it out.

During these busy few weeks, we also have had the pleasure of visits from our local police team as we try to break down the barriers we sometimes see between young people and police in the area. It’s been great to see young people and police engaging in a positive way through the activities and this will only strengthen the relationship between them all.

We are still only 2 weeks into our summer programs and there is still so much we hope to do over the rest of the holidays and beyond but it’s been a pleasure to see young people flourish and the active engagement from them and the wider community. I cannot wait to see what is in store for the future.

If you have any ideas or want to get involved with activities within the area please give me an email and I would love to discuss future ventures with you all. Please contact me at zak.dugdale@hwcp.org.uk.
